I did this upgrade 2 years ago with no problems. The locking mechanism
changes in C=Isam V4 so we had to do the following:
1. Empty all the transaction logs for the database.
2. Reset the locks. RESETLOCK=;export RESETLOCK (ie RESETLOCK = null)
3. Run update_statistics
4. Bcheck all tables including all the sys* tables.

I need a hint. I'm trying to convert several old (really old) Informix 2.1
databases to Informix SE v.5.03. I don't have any direction from Informix
on an upgrade procedure, so I'm simply copying the entire .dbs directory to
the new SE5 area, and accessing the tables without conversion.
This worked on two entire databases, and worked for most tables on three
others. However, for several tables, I get the following error if I try
to do just about anything via "isql":
211: Cannot read system catalog (sysindexes)
111: ISAM error: no record found
The tables seem fine under 2.1 isql. I've tried bcheck on the tables both
from the 2.1 package and the SE5 package. While they both report and
correct
several errors, they don't affect whether SE5 can use the tables or not.
I can't see any pattern to which tables work and which don't I think that
the oldest tables are most likely to have problems, but I can't pin that
down. I also used bcheck on sysindexes. This made no difference. We're
using SCO UNIX now; the tables were all created on SCO Xenix if that
matters.
If anyone has a magic answer, or can even point me in the right direction,
I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
