Informix does have a JDBC driver which wraps their Object Interface for Java. Tough to say if that's considered a type 3 or type 4 driver. I guess that would be type 4, since it's just a bunch of java calls to their java interface. They should possibly have some external company : redo their connectivity solutions to both become much simpler to set : up and use, but primarily have a substantially higher level of : security build in (as extensions to the different standards that are : implemented). It seems to be too hard for most database vendors to do : this for themselves, particularly as those who do the work on this now : mostly have to work without a direct revenue streem to the database : vendor they can point to as a result of their good work.
