There are 2 points where you would need to take care of the specific
behavior.
1) Mount tape on <device> and press RETURN to continue:
This can be bypassed by typing the command:
$ ontape -s <<EOF
EOF
This will send a return to the ontape command.
2) Mount next tape ...
You could calculate the approximate space you would need for backup,
for instance if you are currently using a single 2GB tape, you could
set TAPESIZE to 2GB and have at least 2GB on your disk. This will
ensure that the message does not appear.
There may be more, but these are what I can think of.

How do you tell the online engine to direct archives written
with ontape to a disk file? Modifications through onmonitor
or the onconfig file still leave the engine demanding tape behavior:
mount messages, etc.
