Yes. I fully appreciate this. It's my problem also. The Informix database is being moved to a new, much-higher specd machine. Therefore the existing stats are not really of too much relevance. I would say that I took the opportunity of a recent memory upgrade to shift the BUFFERS setting from 15000 to 40000, but my cache read rate remains resolutely stuck at about 88%. The overall scan rate of the machine has improved 'though. This is why I had to ask the "More memory, or more processors?" question in the abstract. Thanks for your interest. Neil
