Anyone Using Informix-CLI?

I would like to know if anyone is using the Informix call level interface. If you are, what do you think of the product, problems you may have had or any other pros or cons you can share about CLI. We have a Visual Basic application that will need to connect to an Informix 7.1 database and I am looking at the CLI as opposed to getting an ODBC driver.
