Actually some of this statement is true and some is not. Windows does
default services and hosts to the C:\\WINDOWS directory. Since I-NET is
using WINSOCK to perform TCP-IP it does not know and has no way to inquire
where the services file is. This is a vendor dependant function which
GETSERVICEBYNAME will perform. For most TCP-IP vendors you can specify
where the hosts and services file live. Unless you are using some ancient
version of I-NET that does not use WINSOCK Informix does not know or care
where services file is. Only WINSOCK cares where the services file is. If
GETSERVBYNAME fails look for at your TCP-IP setup. A common problem is
that there are conflicting WINSOCK.DLL files in the path.
