If you mean having an Informix server on each machine all accessing the same disk space/database over NFS, NO you cannot do this anyway. With or without I-Net. If, on the other hand, you mean a single server running on one machine with client applications accessing the server over the network using Informix's network protocols, yes you can only do this with I-Net/I-Star.
