IDS Marketing: Like the running "Hey Rocky watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!" gag, Rocky's reply ..."Again! Bullwinkle that trick will never work.". Sorry but its the truth. Some are critical of my for picking on Jerry Keesee because he's the product manager and isn't directly in charge of WW Sales or Marketing efforts. That may be true, but if someone from Big Blue could do me a favor and go in to Blue pages and see who Spang and Allyse report to, I'd love to see it. (Of course that doesn't mean that they aren't cross matrix'd to Jerry.) Of course another "individual" said that I'm always griping about IBM's marketing effort. I gripe when they don't do it, I gripe when they do something. Some people have a short memory. Just ask Dianne Fraiman... ;-) But I digress... The point is that most of the Informix crowd has been around and are skeptical of IBM's 'new and improved' marketing efforts. Clearly its a reaction to IBM finally realizing that their numbers are down. If you listen to some current and soon to be ex-customers. They are in the stages of migrating from IDS... but not to DB2. Outside of IBM. Some to Oracle, others to MySQL and Postgres. I don't know the size or numbers, but unless you have some form of parity of net new customers to defections... well you can see the decline. Sorry folks, I believe that IDS is a great product. Just that its management (in terms of marketing and/or selling) is in the wrong hands. But hey! What do I know? Its not like I've seen first hand the 'lead w DB2 and when that fails try IDS." sales philosophy. (Wait I did) Or its not like I haven't seen IBM's IM management make all sorts of loud praises to IDS, just during the IIUG conference week. Then praise DB2 the other 51 weeks of the year.(We all saw that.) Naw, I know nothing. -G _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail: Powerful Free email with security by Microsoft. http://clk.atdmt.com/GBL/go/201469230/direct/01/
