Problem in importing database with dbimport -l command.

We use dbimport -l <database name> to import the previously exported data. The database is about 1GB size, dbimport -l gives an error "Too long transaction " while loading data to a table which has about 200,000 records. Is there a parameter i need to change? Or I can only use dbimport without -l option? If we don't use -l how do we turn the logging for a database after creating the database?
