Generally, the application would handle the ISAM error number. If your application is crashing, it might give you the error number along with the -243. If you aren't getting any other numbers, then it would seem that your application is trapping the ISAM error and not giving it back to you. There *might* be some sort of error log with something useful in it. Try the bcheck/secheck utility to repair possible index corruption, if that doesn't work, investigate permissions and disk capacity.
