>Could someone please explain the adjacent key locking problem to me, when it occurs and how to get around it. We are using Online ver 7.12 on AIX. I too, have encountered this problem. I use AIX 3.2.5 and Informix 7.11.UC1 Basically, if the db is log mode ANSI or you use repeatable read, and you try to update a row in a table, the adjacent row will also be locked. When someone else tries to query the adjacent row, they will get the 243 error. Solutions: Don't use ANSI logging, and don't use Repeatable Read. Or, upgrade to 7.20.UC1A2 where it is fixed or higher. We've tried some other things, like not using RI on the table and this seems to work better. I think the adjacent index records also get locked, so the fewer indexes, the better. This means, however that the app would have to maintain the integrity of the table relationships.
