For 200 records I don't any utility creating an index. You may try to create a normal table with the same structure with and without index, populate the table with records and see, with "set explain on", if the query uses the index. I think not!. If you have transactions try to create the temporary table with the "no log" attribute. If you have lots os users using that kind of tables try to increase the buffers . Regards
