Effect of Locale on character sorting order?

Hi, I would appreciate you assistance regarding internationalisation. I run Online v5.2 on Sun SunOS4.1.3. I need to 'go international'! I can put iso_8859_1 characters into CHAR fields in a table but then when I SELECT with an ORDER BY on that field, the results aren't what I expect. Have I any control over the sorting order? If so, can the control be specified from the front-end, or is it embedded within the database, or sqlturbo? Any and all thoughts gratefully received. Thankyou.
