It is definitely a show-stopper. They say it'll be fixed in 5.02. If you're doing joins on tables with multiple duplicate join values and if the optimizer does a merge-sort, you'll probably get back incorrect rows. The critical point is (total width of join columns)*(max number of duplicates). If this product is >4K, you'll have a problem. The only way around it is to change your application to avoid the merge-sort.
