What HP box are you running on? We are experiencing similiar ( not going
to say the
same ) issues with a K580 we have recently brought in... Anything dealing
with shared
memory ( guessing here ) hangs -- not seems to hang -- it just hangs. (
Informix 7.23.UC4,
Lawson, etc ).
The story gets worse. You start a shutdown of the box and it gets to the
checklist
message "Shutting down network logging and tracing" and then the box
freezes.
You've got it -- time for the key! Odd thing is that we have the same
configuration
on a K210 and it runs fine...
We have all the latest patches ( or as close to it as one can come when HP
posts a
patch on Friday, and then makes it obsolete on Monday... )

Neil,
You have one sick HP box, from the sounds of things. If glance hangs the
machine, you may be having problems with just about anything.

In fact, it's onstat -, and everything else, including the HP-UX utility
"glance", that hangs on me. And I have to re-boot, not even a kill -9 will
remove the oninits.
You have to be patient with any oncheck that looks at logs. It can take
some considerable time to check a large volume of logical logs.
