RE: Informix and Accounts packages and link to Oracle/SQL Server?
Posted in 1998
I don't think that 4GL will work on NT. Another option -- Oracle markets a "Gateway" product to Informix. I installed the Gateway on my AIX/Informix ODS v7 machine, and a different department uses SQL*PLUS script on a Sequent/Oracle machine to read and update tables in an Informix database. I'm sorry that I don't know the details, but I do know that it works. -----Original Message----- From: rc@vaccaperna.co.uk [SMTP:rc@vaccaperna.co.uk] Sent: Wednesday, March 18, 1998 6:04 AM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Informix and Accounts packages and link to Oracle/SQL Server? I am looking at the options for migrating a system which currently consists of a bespoke Informix 4GL application which interfaces to an accounts package, reading some of the tables and writing to a couple of them (e.g. decrement stock count). Currently running on AIX and Informix SE. The requirements are to migrate to a y2k compliant accounts package and take the bespoke application with it. This then leads to a number of questions, and all advice would be gratefully received: 1. Is it worth considering moving to NT? From browsing, the majority seem to think not, although NT is getting more and more stable, and has a bright future. 2. The majority of accounts packages in the cost range 200 - 600 GBP per module seem to run on Oracle or SQL Server. I am wondering about the possibility of - either creating a real-time link between the Informix DB and the Oracle/SQL Server one, (can this be done from say an AIX box to an NT box?) - or is there an option to compile the 4GL to work with Oracle or SQL Server? QueriX seems to support Oracle this but I would like some feedback as to how good it is. Thanks for any input or other suggestions.
