Help? Form Field Overflow.

Problem: In our previous version of 4GL ver.4.10 UE1, an overflow of a CHAR field that is being displayed to the user resulted in the truncation of the value being displayed. In our new version of 4GL ver. 4.14 UC1, an overflow of a CHAR field that is being displayed results in all ******'s. My solution (so far): Truncate all values before they are displayed, but, with the amount of code and forms I have it is a pain. Is there an EASY way out (yeah right)?
