At a couple of V5 sites update statistics produces erroneous results on large tables (750,000 or greater) both HP/UX and Solaris. Queries would choose the wrong indexes. The work around was to zero the max/min values in systables, effectively removing the update stats. I've not had reported similar problems in V7.
