Displaying A Gannt Chart Based On Informix SE Data
Posted in 1996
Perhaps someone can help me with a new challenge/opportunity set before me. I have two sites, linked via 64kbps kilostream leased line and wish to display a Gannt chart (project mangement time/task list) on one site based on data held on an Informix database on another site. The client is using Informix SE, isql, i4gl on an SCO Open Server Release 5.0.2 platform. The options I have investigated include linking the data using ODBC drivers to Microsoft Access and then exporting the data to Microsoft Project (yuk). Having discussed the configuration/requirement with Microsoft who advise me that you cannot directly link an MS Project file (MPP) to Access and the data must be exported for display as a Gannt. Hardly acceptable as the leased line restriction (64 kbps) will make the ODBC link between the Informix and Access database unuseable - if not monsterously slow :-( Do you know of any client server applications/toolsets which allow display of data graphically either on a PC or dumb terminal, without the need for a fast network (probably some kind of thin/thick client server relationship). New Era, is a possibility. However, I don't fancy the idea of programming a Gannt chart using New Era. Any help/contributions would be GREATLY appreciated.
