Well, I don't know about "scuttlebutt" (momma taught me never to spread rumors..) but I can tell you SOME of Informix's plans with regard to NewEra partitioning. Currently, the first "version" of application partitioning will be available under release 2.0 (planned still? for August '95). Partitioning will be available programmatically via a set of class libraries. This will only allow you two-tier partitioning, client or server (no middleware). Release 3.1 (slated for March-ish '96) will contain a Partitioning tool that is supposed to allow you to do your work graphically, I believe. I'd imagine it'd be something along the lines of Window Painter look and functionality. As part of the 3.1 release, it is expected that Informix will offer a set of class libraries intended to be used with Encina, thereby offering you three-tier partitioning capability. I'd expect this would be an add-on product, and not necessarily part of the base product. Don't know if this answered your question. Feel free to ping me for more specifics, and I'll answer what I can. - Corinne -- Corinne Gregory, Senior Consultant ASIX, Inc. 777 108th Ave. NE, Suite 1830, Bellevue WA 98004-5118 corinne.gregory@asix.com
