tuning BUFFERS

I'm currently tuning the BUFFERS parameter. I've read that if you increase BUFFERS too much that the operating system will start swapping which will kill your performance. How will I know if this is happening? I'm running IDS 7.22 on HPUX 10.20. Thanks
Hi Top Cat. HP UX comes with a graphical utility called "SAM" (System Administration Manager") which runs under an X client. It also can be run in character mode, but my (very limited!) experience suggests running it under X is better. You can monitor swapping using that tool. Hi Be careful if you increase the BUFFER too much. This can increase also the checkpoint duration and so the overall performance of your system. The problem is that with the same LRU* Parameters (S, _MIN_DIRTY, _MAX_DIRTY) the system has more dirty buffers to write during a checkpoint. So you have a longer checkpoint time. If you decrease LRU_[MIN|MAX]_DIRTY or increase LRUS the volume for writing is the same and 'no' change in checkpoint duration will occure. best regards martin eMail: martin.sambor@siemens.at Top Cat <cstefanick@ocsmgmt.com> schrieb in im Newsbeitrag: 80ulb5$1v1$1@nnrp03.primenet.com... > I'm currently tuning the BUFFERS parameter.
