benchmarking adventure

I've been assigned to evaluate the performance of a group of raid solutions under informix. What I have envisioned is a series of shell scripts, all run with timex, that will do a dbload, dbunload, a series of simple selects and some selects that involve nested joins. I'd appreciate any info anyone who has done this sort of thing could offer.
