I am a sys admin here, but do not regularly deal with Informix or Unix. We have an HP UX 11 with Informix 7.3. I have been charged (? - and perhaps will be arrested) with installing Cognos Impromptu V5 clients on Win95 and NT. I am not sure what is the best way to go about this. At this point any answers will be appreciated. Basically I would like to set up a 32bit ODBC driver, and have Cognos access the Informix Database through that. Can anyone suggest drivers (Does informix have one? Is it free?) Any others that are better / faster?
We have Informix 7.2x (several different levels) under HP/UX 10.x (again different levels) and connect from Cognos' Impromptu v5 using both the Informix supplied ODBC drivers (CLI-32) and native drivers (I-Connect). I believe that both are now provided on the IDS distribution medium. I don't have my CD in front of me but I remember the directory names to be fairly obvious. I have not had a performance problem using either driver. I would warn you that the connection configuration using Setnet32 can be a little trying the first time through (I think you need setnet32 for both native and ODBC solutions) but once you crack the code, you're golden. Another gotcha, if you have a need to point Impromptu to different machines and/or databases, you will need to use Setnet32 to change your default server before starting Impromptu, otherwise, Impromptu will only see the default server and other connection attempts will fail. I Hope this helps. Take a look at http://www.sco.com/vision/products/sqlretriever/ for more information and a downloadable eval. We port for Informix7 on HP UX.
