Slightly more seriously, liberal arts IS very important. If all you take is math then how are you going to talk? (3%4)*2**4/3...? Math is another language if you are going to get sucked into that language - which you must since it is the basic wrench we apply to all sciences - you need something else to keep the other half of your brain occupied. One of the larger challenges facing the business community today is that there is nobody left who knows how to write the english language. Pick up The Fine Manual and peruse it. Go out and check out other technical books on the market today, for that matter pick up some of he 'best selling' authors out there and read the junk they put out. Go get a Big-6 consultant report. Read a legal document. Sure we know what we're talking about, but VERY few of us (and I am no exception) have the ability to communicate that knowledge clearly and succintly. We have to go get english blokes to come over 'ere and write stuff for us. Don't denigrate liberal arts, what use that you build to the sky if all it is is concrete? Without culture, art, music, history and all the rest of that liberal arts stuff - what in the h*ll are you working FOR? Money? The thrill of working? Don't you want to go home at night and have a meal that doesn't come out of a microzap? Taste a fine wine? What classification would you put the recipe for Lemon-pepper-chicken under? Biochemical engineering? Without liberal arts your rendition of this recipe might well fall into that category - specifically toxic waste. You see, I can't even communicate THIS point clearly. cheers j. _____________________________________________________________________________ Jack Parker - Hewlett Packard, DMD/IS Boise, Idaho, USA jparker@hpbs3645.boi.hp.com _____________________________________________________________________________ "I'm with the IRS, I'm here to help you" _____________________________________________________________________________ Any opinions expressed herein are my own and not those of my employers. _____________________________________________________________________________
