Answer: check that ther is not an archive running which has got stuck. E.g. tbtape not clokcing up any CPU time. Once had a system where the tape drive had got "stuck". Since tbtape was inside a system call at the time it could not be killed. I think we eventually rebooted to solve the problem. This may be the problem...can't remember the exact problem but certainly no new checkpoints were occuring.. >Thanks again.
