From what I've seen if you are running on a uni-processor machine version 7 can not be tuned to provide good OLTP performance while any large queries/reports are running. Informix 7 will often complete the large queries/reports quicker, but only at the expense of the OLTP users. In many environments this is not acceptable. For all its faults, Informix 5's method of running each user session a separate process (rather than thread) allows the OS to pre-emptively multitask the database sessions and provide for more level performance when both OLTP and DSS type queries are going on. Now if there was some way to tune 7 to not behave this way... some way of controlling a sessions priority (other than PDQPRIORITY) perhaps? -- Irwin Goldstein Objective Software Systems, Inc. http://www.objectsoft.com
