SUN/HP still seems to be able > to keep binary compatibility .... The only significant change to glibc (that you failed to mention) was the addition of NPTL (Native POSIX Thread Library). The previous pthread implementation was not POSIX compliant in several areas (type "NPTL" into Google and click on "I'm Feeling Lucky" for all the gory details). The new NPTL scales a lot better than the old on SMP systems. And even SUN/HP couldn't make a POSIX-compatible library binary compatible with a previous non-POSIX-compatible implementation. What was once really broken is now fixed. Time to move forward. Some of the other issues encountered in RHL9 (such as the infamous "errno" warning) are porting issues in IDS. -- Forte International, P.O.
