Valery, >I think diverge rootdbs and most accessible dbspaces to different >disks. >Am I right ? Oh, yes. *Try* to put the root db space on its own disk drive, the logical log db space on *its* own disk drive, and the physical log on *its* own disk drive, if possible. Informix has many suggestions on how to 'share' disk space on one or two drives if you must mix these together. In an ideal world, I'd have something like this: SCSI CONTROLLER SCSI CONTROLLER NUMBER 0 NUMBER 1 | | | | | | | | | | physical disk physical disk number 0 number 3 +----------+ +----------+ | rootdbs | | dbspace1 | | | | | +----------+ +----------+ physical disk physical disk number 1 number 4 +----------+ +----------+ | physical | | dbspace1 | | log | | | +----------+ +----------+ physical disk physical disk number 2 number 5 +----------+ +----------+ | logical | | dbspace2 | | log | | (etc) | +----------+ +----------+ They hardly ever give me this much disk. Instead, I usually end up with something like this: SCSI CONTROLLER SCSI CONTROLLER NUMBER 0 NUMBER 1 | | | | | | | | physical disk physical disk number 0 number 3 +----------+ +----------+ | rootdbs | | dbspace1 | |----------| |----------| | logl log | | dbspace2 | +----------+ +----------+ physical disk physical disk number 1 number 4 +----------+ +----------+ | physical | | dbspace1 | | log | |----------| | | | dbspace2 | +----------+ +----------+ physical disk physical disk number 2 number 5 +----------+ +----------+ | filesys | | dbspace3 | | space | |----------| | | | dbspace4 | +----------+ +----------+ ***** These do NOT account for mirroring!! Use vendor-supplied mirroring instead of Informix's mirroring whenever possible. If it's available, use disk mirror striping to improve performance (such as NCR's). This mirrors & stripes 'vertically' down a single controller or across controllers (this is not the same as RAID). ***** >Informix advice to put most accessible dbspaces closer to the center >of the disk , but I think that now access time for all surface of the >disk is approximately the same. Every hardware technician I've spoken to so far agrees (HP, NCR). >Have anybody experience with disk partioning for Online 5.1 > ( up to 6.x is a different story obviously ) ? Is there a 5.1 release? I know there is a 5.01. Last I heard, 5.03 was the most current of the 5.xx releases ...
