The system starts > backup at 4:30 am through cron but in the tbtape reports 3:30 am (see i would think that running it through cron you have a TZ problem, or whatever the time zone variable is on your machine. i believe that cron(1m) specifically states that you have to deal with the TZ stuff, but i'm not sure where that memory is surfacing from. i would look at that first. if tbstat shows the correct time and date, then there is nothing to worry about. backups are logged in the database as a timestamp of when the backup was done, and subsequent backups are checked against this. so a level one backup looks at the timestamp of the last level 0, and grabs every page newer than that. you can find out what time is logged by examining page 11,12 of the root dbspace, but since you have to know the exact structure of the pages, this could take a little time to figure out. you are only really after the first two fields, so it shouldn't be too bad. try doing a level 2 archive from the shell prompt, and see what time it gives you. if it gives you the correct time, then it is most likely a TZ problem, and a level 2 should happen quickly. or you could just cancel it once you've started. this is long winded to say what i wanted, which is it shouldn't be a problem, but through one of these methods you can figure it out. > the file I am attaching bellow). Sometimes it even shows previous day! > Also the utility always starts showing the percentage done with 17% and > finishes with 66% . don't worry about this. the percentages that it reports depends on the size of the database, and the amount of data that it thinks it has to archive. it comes up different on different machines. all that says to me is that the size of your database is relatively stable. hope this helps. mickm
