Regarding archiving. According to Informix OnLine Administration class materials you should be able to set up automatic archiving/log backup through tbtape and its options. There is some necessary coordination of logical log status and of course the possibility of dealing with multi-volume tape backups. It does appear that you can archive or log to disk as well and copy it later. Beware; we haven't gotten that far yet.
