RE: Accessing database using NFS - any ideas?

First of all ==> you do not access the database through NFS but through sockets Then: use standard Informix access policy you'll find it more simple and less demanding Good luck -----Original Message----- From: psherwin@telinco.co.uk [mailto:psherwin@telinco.co.uk] Sent: Saturday, July 17, 1999 9:43 AM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Accessing database using NFS - any ideas? I'm trying to make a fairly old Informix system running on a SCO box use a database stored on a Linux server using NFS. I'm completely unable to make this work, and I don't know why. The Informix interactive SQL interface 'isql' sees a database 'database' by referencing a directory called 'database.dbs'. Below this are all the tables and indices. I have identical copies of 'database.dbs' and its contents on the SCO and Linux systems. As root, I run isql on the SCO box and everything works as normal. I then mount the remote copy of the database over the 'database.dbs' directory specifying the 'no_root_squash' option in the Linux exports file (so I get true root access). On the SCO box, everything looks exactly the same - file permissions, ownership, everything. I can access all the files as if they were local - in fact I wouldn't know they were remote mounted apart from the performance hit. However, I run isql in exactly the same way from exactly the same default directory and it doesn't see the database. I have no idea what isql is doing, Informix not exactly being an open source product, but I can't think of anything it could be doing to cause this behaviour. Somebody did suggest it may be a locking problem, but surely this should be handled via NFS too? Does anybody have any suggestions?
