HELP!!!
Application: Informix Dynamic Server Enterprise Edition 10.00.FC11
S. O. : AIX 5.3
CASE: An attempt to add a 32 GB chunk of the dbspace: SBSPACE of the Instance:
coppelimg_shm Environment: production - Images - Culiacan (Primary under the
scheme HDR) sent the following error:
Verifying physical disk space, please wait ...
Can not add a new chunk to the dbspace.
ISAM error: chunk table overflow
ENVIRONMENT: production (up and in operation)
PRIORITY: HIGH - The dbspace: SBSPACE it's 93% occupancy.
This instance have only a few chunks.

Response:
I suspect you are getting the chunk table over flow error because you are
exceeding the maximum number of logical pages that can be addressed in 1
dbspace. Due to the way the engine computes physical pages addresses, each
dbspace is limited to addressing 0x7fffffff logical pages inside that dbspace
(in the 64bit version of the product)

Hi guys It's out there any workaround that we can use? Regards, Cesar Cruz
Original post: Hi guys It's out there any workaround that we can use? Regards, Cesar Cruz Response: Unfortunately, I don't believe so. The concept is called dbspace relative addressing, which is why in 10.x 1 dbspace can only have 0x7fffffff pages in it. This concept was re-architected in 11.70 and now each chunk can have 0x7fffffff pages and 1 dbspace can contain 32k chunks. But back in 10.x there would be no sort of work around that would allow you to add more space to the dbspace that is maxed out on pages it can track. Original Post: Hi guys It's out there any workaround that we can use? Regards, Cesar Cruz Response: From looking at your 1st post and taking the number, 2146603264, as the current number of total pages in that sbspace. If you take 0x7fffffff and subtract 2146603264, that would be the most space you could still add to this sbspace before it is completely maxed out. That number of ~880,000 pages. So on a 4K page system the amount of space you could add is 880,000 * 4K for a bit over 3Gb, which is much smaller then the 32Gb chunk you were trying to add. So yes you can add a bit more space to this dbspace, but you can not add 32Gb, and that is why it is returning the chunk overflow error. Jacques Renaut IBM Informix Advanced Support APD Team
