Hello, Here are the responses I got from the net. I received some requests for summary and here it goes! Potluri ------------------------summary------------------------------------- ========================================================================= dora, take a look at the fourgen products (800)333-4436. regards, ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bob Baskett | ... ... Mesa, AZ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi Dora, How are you ? We use IQ here at Motorola. IQ is a users report writer and is database independent. We chose it because we can put it over the top of Oracle, Informix SE and Informix ONLINE. The report writer is very simple to use and can do some reports e.g matrices that are very difficult within informix. Output can be to printers, files or Lotus 123/dbase file formats. I'm at home at present and don't have address details but they advertise all over the place. Try Unix-World. I think it would be very useful if you would post a summary of the replies that you get. IQ runs on a variety of operating systems and can access many databases, including Informix SE and OnLine, many other relational databases and C-ISAM style files. IQ can generate simple lists, formatted reports defined in a painter type interface, mailing labels, histograms, and matrix reports. An add-in called IQ Access allows you to create lists in the appropriate format for importing into many popular office automation programs. Usually IQ is sold by OEM's already integrated with their vertical applications, but you may be able to buy directly from them. Their number is 404-446-8880. Hope this helps. The top two (virtually finished in a dead heat), were: Crystal Reports - from Crystal - Vancouver, BC ReportSmith - from Indigo - California Both provide very robust functionality and are extremely easy to use. If you are looking for ad-hoc data accessibility and end-user SQL queries, you may also want to look at Q+E Query Builder from Pioneer Software. Hope this helps - I have direct phone numbers for all if you want them. ___________ | | Regards, | Steve Malme | Fargo ->*| Great Plains Software |____________| (smalme@mcimail.com) ===================================================================== Dora--I am very interested in any results you receive to your question about reportwriters. We are getting a very inexpensive copy of Q+E soon, and hope to use it with Informix Online. So I don't know how good it is, but keep in touch. Plus, I'd love to hear abut other product out there and how they perform. The following is a response I received when I posted a request for info about Q+E with Informix: +++++++++++++++++++ Hi Holly, I assume you have the the Q+E Database Editor, version 5.0.3 (or something like that!).. This is the first version of Q+E to have Informix connectivity. If you have this and INET on the PC and, although the Q+E book doesn't say it, Informix-STAR on the server, you could use Q+E... It appears that Q+E could be used as a report writer. I just got a (free!) copy yesterday at Windows World and am busy gathering the pieces I think are necessary to get the thing to work... Why don't we keep in touch and share our misery/shining successes as we get this thing working... Good Luck.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tim Tow, CPA Phone: 205-730-8234 Intergraph Corporation Fax: 205-730-2164 Mailstop: HQ011 Mailpath: tntow@timtow.b1.ingr.com Huntsville, AL 35894-0001 ++++++++++ ======================================================================= I just ordered FOURGEN's CASE tools, one of which is a report writer. It's highly touted, but t will be a while before I can share my experiences with it as our new machine won't be in for 60-90 days... david@cssnet.sanford.nc.us [J.
