nrows*rowsize will give not give you an exact size for the amount of disk space in use. This is because as you add and delete rows from the database, it is possible that you will get a lot of holes. The engine will try to reclaim this space as it needs it. However, at any given time, it is probable that there is some empty space there. Also, it is probable that there will be empty space on each page within a table because there rows do not span pages unless they are variable length, or can not fit on a single page. For instance, lets suppose that there are 90 bytes free on a page, but the row size is 100 bytes long and is a fixed length row. The 90 bytes will never be used. Also, there is some control information on each page. As far as the index size, this is very difficult to predect because it really depends on how many duplicate keys there are. Madison Pruet
