Re: Enterprise Replication
Posted in 1997
I have been using Enterprise Replication for about a year. I have invested much time in the beta product and the production version. The product has it's good points and some not-so-good points. The bottom line is that the product works and functions well. However, ER is a homogeneous replication product which means that it only replicates from Informix to Informix. ER can replicate between Informix databases running on different hardware/OS platforms (like SUN/Solaris to HP/UX). I believe that Informix recommends using a product called Praxis for heterogneous replication. I am not familiar with Praxis, but I suspect it is "trigger" driven rather than logical log driven like ER. The logical log approach used by ER performs well and recovers from outages well. I would happy to answer any specific questions that you have or point you in the right direction. -- Bob Carts - SAIC 703-813-2914 USA -- "Maria L.
