Thinking about ditching MSSQL 6.x.....

We're thinking about moving to a "real" DBMS from Microsoft SQL 6.x (6.5, actually). Informix seems like it would alleviate (sp) most of the problems we've been having with MSSQL, namely: -Growing number of users (20+) results in growing number of deadlocks (due to page level locking strategy) -Performance declining as database grows (seemingly geometric progression) -MSSQL views are nearly unusable (if you like complex joins like I do...) -16 table limit on joins (not as crucial, but it still bites!) From reading various comments, it looks like the NT version of the Informix engine is not quite as good as the Unix versions. (Personally, I left the Unix world to work on this project, and I'm missing it quite a bit...) We use Powerbuilder for most of our app development, but want to keep our options open to use other tools (Crystal Reports and the like for example). I would be very interested (as I think would a lot of other MSSQL DBA's) to see what others' opinions were on this potential transition. Also, I would like to hear what makes Informix better than Oracle. Thanks! -Mike
