querying 7.31 online database from 7.24 SE on a di

I've been banging my head against a wall on this and am wondering if I am attempting the impossible or if I have not set up everything properly. Ideally, I would query 7.31 online from the machine running 7.24 SE, but if I can do it the other way around that would be acceptable. Both machines can ping each other and I think I've set up sqlhosts properly, but perhaps that is the problem. It seems this should be simple - I can remotely query other machines running 7.24 SE just fine. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. --------------------------------- New Yahoo! Of itself, that presents no problem. The sqlhosts file on the machine running SE needs to contain an entry for the server name or alias running IDS and listening for TCP connections. However, if you are hoping to do distributed queries, as distinct from remote access, then you are on a hiding to nothing; IDS cannot do distributed queries with SE - full stop (period). You may, however, write an application with two simultaneous yet separate connections - one to IDS and one to SE - and you can move results from one database to the application and then to the other database, in either direction. > Both machines can ping each other and I think I've set up sqlhosts properly, > but perhaps that is the problem. > > It seems this should be simple - I can remotely query other machines running > 7.24 SE just fine. > > Any help would be most appreciated. If what I've said is insufficient help, then we're going to need some information - quite a lot of information - from you to complete the diagnosis. First, we need to be sure what you're attempting. Next, we need the sqlhosts file entry on the machine running SE that identifies the IDS instance. We also need to know the service number corresponding to the service name. We also need the sqlhosts file entry or entries on the machine running IDS, plus the DBSERVERNAME and DBSERVERALIASES entries from the ONCONFIG file, plus the service numbers corresponding to the TCP service names. -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2005.02 -- http://dbi.perl.org/
