I'm thrilled to pieces with Informix! I rate it a solid 4+, and enjoy it so much that I just accepted a new position there. I like using the web front end tools the most, and we use them internally and externally. Just yesterday I was very excited to see a database-interactive course evaluation system written with the Universal Data tools. [...] This is Informix's bugbear. As the "technology leader" in databases, the company goes to enormous lengths to make a product that is "better" than the competition. The architectural changes that went into the product to make the DSA were so profound that Informix's main competitor risked lawsuit and physical abuse to hire away the brains behind the effort. Now they are working diligently to catch up with this now-proven technology. Informix wants its RDBMS products to be seen as the premier database, one that customers will be happy to have when it comes time to "bet the business" on the system. This is what Bob Finoccio, the new president and CEO, means when he says that Informix is a "high end" company--at all scales, from tiny systems to huge ones. That's my view, anyway. Standard disclaimers apply, of course. _____________________________________________________________ Clem Akins (aka clem@informix.com) Menlo Park x5937 Technical Course Development Manager, Informix Software, Inc
