/opt/informix:->ontape -s
Server is in an incompatible state or user authentication failed.
Program over.

to drop the table, the server would have to be on line at some point.

you can restore on or offline. if restoring offline, you're doing a full
restore, including critical dbspaces, and no variations to onconfig or chunks
allowed. One question -- why are you archving, then turning around to
restore? Is this a test?

It's critical to bring the instance up to online mode after restoring, so
chunks are marked with consistency -- you will encounter problems with the
restore if you do not bring the instance into online mode after the restore
(like trying to bounce it, bring it down, then back up again, or bounce the
whole box).

check your online.log for errors. try the restore again -- wait for
queiscent mode, then bring online using onmode -my. also, if you don't
restore logical logs (assuming you are using them) your chunks will not come
up, will remain inconsistent. Informix has to mark them as online.
