strings in ESQL/C OL-6.0 examples

Hi, I'm new in Informix context, let me ask a humble question please. First I had a look at SQL docus of vers. 4.x, 5.x and now 6.0 - with a striking difference to the older samples for ESQL/C, the new books are full of single quoted C strings?!, even in statements that ought to be left alone by an ESQL preprocessor of good manners [ printf('for example'); about which cc will sure complain ]. I only found that double quotes are NOT considered ANSI-SQL any more but an extension. Since we don't have the corresponding ESQL/C product in hand yet, I can't simply try it...
