ODBC Questions
Posted in 1999
I've never done anything with ODBC so I am apt to display my ignorance here. I am on a short term project and I'm being asked to document an existing application including tables and relationships. I understand that Visio can be used to make a nifty diagram of an ODBC database. The client has the ODBC stuff loaded on their machine but it is being used for another database. Is it too much to expect that I can just slap ODBC up against the database I'm working on and expect to be able to get the output I'm looking for? The database doesn't have any constraints, so I don't see how the tables are going to magically convey their relationships to Visio. If I can get Visio to read the tables and keep me from going the cut and paste route I feel like it might be worth the effort. Anyone have any experience with Visio doing this sort of thing? Anyone with experience adding ODBC to an existing database who can quantify the amount of time I might have to spend doing this?
