Re: New Release Causes -410 - Solution?
Posted in 1995
Awhile back there was a post concerning a new release of Informix causing a -410 database error in ESQL/C code. I had also experienced this problem when we upgraded from 5.00 to 5.03 of ONLINE. The error occured on the execute statement of the PREPARE, DECLARE, and EXECUTE sequence. The following are the results of our investigation after talking with Informix: There was a change made in the way ESQL handles prepared statements in version 5.03 If you have a statement which DOES NOT declare a cursor that will be used to fetch data rows, then leave out the DECLARE statement and just PREPARE and EXECUTE it. Otherwise you will need the declare. We saw this error on our prepared UPDATE and DELETE statements. Informix told us that this new "feature" is documented in the newer manuals, but since we don't have those, the manuals didn't help much. I was hoping that this "feature" would be in the release notes under $INFORMIXDIR/release but alas that was not the case. My purpose for posting this is to warn all those upgrading to 5.03 or higher that this change has happened. I'm not slamming Informix at all, just wishing for a more perfect world! Tracy W.
