Hi All, We have installed IDS 7.3, 20 Users Licenses on Unix SCO Open Server ver 5.0 machine, and 20 users 4GL RDS licenses. The problem we are facing is that when 4 users login to the database the system works fine, when the fifth user log's in the system slows down, after the sixth user log's in we get an error message "error number 25588" and the system hangs. WE have kept the NETTYPE settings to (ipcshm,1,20,CPU). We are able to go online. When we changed the setting to(ipcshm,1,45,CPU) the number of login increased from 5 Users to 20 Users. If 21st user log's in we get the same error "error number 25588" and the system hangs. Does Informix give an error message if the number of login increases from the specified no. of users ? Since we are only having 20 users licenses for our engine, what is the exact meaning of this error message ? Why the system is working at the value (ipcshm,1,45,CPU) ? can anyone help us on this ? It looks like each user is making at least 2 connections to the
database server. If you are using 4GL it is common practice to have a
menu program, which connects to the database, start up separate
applications for each menu choice and this second program opens a
second connection. So for 21 users you would need to have 42 listener
slots and you as an administrator may be using a connection or two,
like the one that ontape -c uses. The NETTYPE parameter's third field
is the number of listener slots for concurrent connections. When you
have this set to 20 you can only get 20 connections, less system and
administration connections (one is reserved for user informix in case
there are no other connections available to perform maintenance). If
you use multiple connections per user you have to increase the NETTYPE
field accordingly. I would set that at 150% the number of expected
connections. Since you are only licensed for 20 users, and assuming
2 connections per user, that would put that at:
NETTYPE ipcshm,1,60,CPU
