We are about to upgrade to 4.10 and I had assumed that the black and gray manuals we recently received would be the same for 4.10. I have copies of both the blue and gray ring binder version and the black and gray bound version of the V4.00 SQL Reference Manual in front of me and, physical format aside, they are the same page for page... The only difference is, as somebody else already pointed out, the new manuals won't stay open without a brick and are a big step backwards in terms of usability and durability. This might only be a side issue, but the new manuals also come with heaps of (extra) unnecessary packaging. Our most recent shipment was packaged in a large blue and white carton. Inside that were a number of medium sized blue and white cartons. Inside them were slightly smaller black and gray cartons. Inside them were individual black and gray boxes for documentation and disks. Each of which was plastic wrapped. All very well presented but I'm sure its a bit over done. I would much rather have my money paying for ring binders rather than packaging that I send to the recycling depot. However, to Informix's credit you can at least order maintenance upgrades without having to get another set of manuals. Unlike SCO; we have a small truckload of unwanted SCO ODT manuals despite repeated requests for software only upgrades... :-( +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Ron Lees rlees@pdact.pd.necisa.oz.au Manager, Software Development Centre (Canberra) Voice: +61-6-2516411 NEC Information Systems Australia Pty Ltd Fax: +61-6-2516947 PO Box 244, Belconnen ACT 2616, AUSTRALIA A.C.N. 002068546 +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
