RE: Splitting field
Posted in 2006
Dirk Is there any structure in the current field? Do the first n characters always contain the House number and never part of the Street, if so use select street[1,n], as house, street[n+1,to end] as new_street. If house number is at the beginning or end and delimited by a space you may be able to use TRIM. If there is no structure you will not be able to split automatically, each field will need to be examined. In the UK it might be possible to use some form of address validation software to do this external to the database (something like QAS), but I imagine you are not UK based !
