We do not live in one database world. I can't think of a shop I worked with or at that has only one database. My last job was MySQL and SQL Server, the one before was Oracle and PostgreSQL, and the one before was Informix and many others. The world is not black and white, so I really think we should open our mind! I assisted someone recently who had an Informix and deployed data for web to MySQL. He still uses Informix and he trusts it. When I was in Tampa, I spoke about MySQL, DB2 (of course!), and many other stuff. You know, I am not a DBA, I am a developer, to me, the data is raw material and the data server is the warehouse. I want it to be reliable. My experience shows that Informix has been the easiest to use and the most reliable one so far. So I stay and work a lot with IDS, which does not mean I should stop from learning and discovering other tools and databases! I'd like to know more about pureXML in DB2 for instance... So, as we live in a colorful world, I open my mind and I would hope that some people on this list would too! so far so good, still looking for an exciting job (and if you have a few minutes to kill, go to jgp.net). jgp
