creating roles

Can we create and use "Roles" in Informix as in Oracle? If so, please let me know of the usage. Thanks Ganesh
Same usage. I think it is the exact same syntax.
CREATE ROLE myrole;
GRANT select, insert ON table TO myrole;
GRANT myrole TO user;

The
difference is by using roles. In informix you have to explizit "set
role xx" in your statements to be member of the role.

The syntax is very similar= to what Oracle uses. Options to do that automatically (i.e. doing the SET ROLE <role> ) a) XPS -- use the sysdbopen() procedure and put in the SET ROLE comman= d in that stored procedure. b) IDS 9.x -- use a SELECT Trigger on a table which probably all the applications use to sign on to the database .. if you don't hv a set up= like that then you'll have to change the application to include the SET= ROLE command in that.
