AIX 5.3 - IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.50.FC8 Can someone tell me why this warning is appearing in the online.log each time the instance is initialized. I checked the value of SHMBASE and it matches the value below. 09:33:28 WARNING: If you intend to use J/Foundation or GLS for Unicode feature(GLU) with this Server instance, please make sure that your SHMBASE value specifies in onconfig is 0x700000010000000 or above. Otherwise you will have problems while attaching or dynamimically adding virtual shared memory segments. Please refer to Server machine notes for more information.
We are receiving the same warning while using the default, so we tend to
ignore it, since we are within the recommended range or above.
Thanks,

Hi all, This is because the default SHMBASE in onconfig.std is a smaller value than > 0x700000010000000 If you don't use GLS or Java UDR's you can ignore it. It is an AIX thing IB. If you run any Java procedures, the JRE needs more address space than can be provided under the default SHMBASE, which BTW is 0x700000000000000 (not 0x700000010000000). I just made this change for a client and the warning went away with no ill effects. IBM says it's optional, but if you want to get rid of the warning.... Art Art S. Thank you all for your replies. I just didn't see the difference between the SHMBASE in the message vs what was in the onconfig file. Thank's for pointing that out Art. I made the change and the warning no longer appears.
