Subject: Trying to export from Informix SQL V2.10 database on a Unix system. I have visited your Internet home page and downloaded about thirty two pages of information but cannot discern the answer to my question. Perhaps you can help. Background: The museum has a dedicated database as follows: Hardware Operating System Altos 3000 Altos UNIX Intel 80386 System V 386RT V5.3eS2 DataBase DataBase Development Language Informix-SQL INFORMIX-4gl RDS V2.10.03KB0 V1.10.03KBO The application is a custom package written around the turn of the decade (1989-1991). ISAM seems to be part of the picture as there are occasional references to ISAM in our documentation. I have extensive hardware and network experience, have worked as a programmer and have database experience. However I have never used Informix and there are no Informix or SQL programmers on my staff at this time. The Altos system has an Ethernet 10-Base-2 connector but does not seem to support Ethernet with the current software. Neither does it have TCP/IP Server or NFS as far as I can tell. It does have UUCOPY and supports serial terminal connections at 9600 baud. We currently run the database application(s) using Altos7 terminals, Wyse60 terminals and two PC's using Windows for Workgroups V3.11 and ICE.TEN.Plus, a terminal emulator package written by James River Group, Inc. from Minnesota. Problem Statement We will soon be replacing our software with a package written in Oracle and need to port our data to a newer Intel based server. I am interested in capturing all existing data and meta-data and exporting it into a format our future vendor can handle. Please tell me if we would be able to connect to the database using Data Junction. Will Data Junction connect to the INFORMIX database over a terminal port? Will it work satisfactorily over a 9600 baud serial connection from the PC? Is there any other (faster) way to connect to the database? Thank you,
