How to take ontape backups of logical logs in Windows XP Professional system
which has no tape drive attached and direct it instead to CD or hard disk.
I am using IDS 11.50.
I am newbie to Informix DBA and all help that I get is using tape drives.
You can set LTAPEDEV to any file or folder it does not have to be set to a
tape drive or you can use ontape -a -t <filepath>

Sir,
ontape -s works , but ontape -a & ontape -c both give error as
ontape -a :
Performing automatic backup of logical logs
Logbackup failed - Log backup to device 'nul' not allowed
Program over
ontape -c :
Performing continuous backup of logical logs
Logbackup failed - Log backup to device 'nul' not allowed
Program over
Please need your help.
You have LTAPEDEV set to the NUL device which tells Informix to discard
logical logs as soon as they complete so it is not valid to try to archive
them. Change LTAPEDEV to a file or folder and bounce the engine, then you
will be able to archive your logical logs with ontape -a or ontape -c.
